VIDEO: Andre Luiz shows yellow card to the referee

BRASILIA, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Due to the confusion that took place after Andre Luis was expelled from Sunday's soccer game of Botafogo and Nautico, the player has received punishment.

After the player gave his testimony and was questioned for nearly four hours, the "Special Judge of the Fans" announced the athlete's penalty. Luis will be fined nearly 5,000 U.S. dollars, which will be donated to the Cancer Hospital of Pernambuco.

The president of the Botafogo team was also involved in a scuffle with the police who apprehended and escorted the player off the field by force.

Bebeto de Frietas was fined nearly 2,000 U.S. dollars. However, the team president did not accept the punishment. The case will now be sent to the Public Ministry.

The president said, "the abuse of authority is ridiculous. This whole thing is absurd...the player was wrong. He had a hot head. You cannot do what he did, but it should be the legislative sports body that should decide his punishment. The club cannot be fined."

The confusion started in the 37th minute of the first half of Sunday's game. Upon expulsion, the player threw an object into the crowd, made obscene gestures and cursed at fans.

The police immediately surrounded the player and attempted to apprehend him. Other teammates attempted to protect the player and were caught by the pepper spray used by the police and were even beaten by the police with their night sticks.

According to the "Special Judge of the Fan", Andre Luis threw a bottle into the stands and hit an elderly man, breaking his glasses.

When the game resumed, the home team Nautico went on to defeat Botafogo 3-0.
